Think your prepared for a computer failure? Try this test. Turn off your computer. Get out a piece of paper and write out exactly how you will recover all of your data, accounts, settings, and every other tool you use on your computer to do business every day. Tough? That is called a disaster plan. You need one!
One of my clients just told me he lost his hard drive last week to a crash. That is the third one I have heard about in the last 6 weeks. If you are going to run a business. If you want investors to believe in you. If you want your customer to believe in your product, then PLEASE BACK UP YOUR DATA!
Just in case you wondered, I have my data backed up three levels back including an off-site backup. Yes, I have been burned before. No, I will not get burned again. Paying $1,500 to get some of your data back many days later from a recovery service is not a great experience either.
